I think the size is fine, but I would use a different batting that drapes more softly -- maybe Hobbs 80/20. My favorite for baby quilts is Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton because it gets softer with every washing. However, this is a very old-fashioned batting that requires quilting every 2 inches or so and is flatter and thinner than many modern quilters expect. Warm and Natural has a pretty stiff drape, and this shows up more in a smaller quilt. I have one baby quilt that has been sitting on the shelf waiting for me to un-baste it from Warm and Natural.
