There is a thing called "peggy's stitch eraser" which is basically a wahl mustache trimmer. I owned a commercial embroidery business for 15 years and this was the best inventment I ever made. Using a seam ripper you run the risk of cutting the garment, I had a girl that used a razer blade - she knew how to use it but at times she put a hole in things also. You can also go on the back side of the embroidery and clip the bobbin thread and pull it out then pull the front stitches out.
