I'll add a picture or two on that one later today. The straight "bar" rides on top of the needle clamp screw. The other end is attached to the presser foot bar. Therefore the foot gets lifted with the needle just like any other darning/ hopping foot. I have used it with a zigzagmachine's "button sew on" foot which gives great visibility. I do hope that that was clearer than mud.
