OK, I couldn't see the trap door from your pics.
On colored machines like that I use either: sewing machine oil with a soft cloth or cotton balls, or baby oil with soft cloths or cotton balls.
I've also used Goop non pumice hand cleaner. Soft cloth and rub gently.
I also use a variety of tooth brushes to get into cracks, crevices and corners.
I don't use soap and water because water equals rust in my opinion.
