I make scrape quilts. My favorite easy block is the 9-patch and log cabin. I found that the sugar bowl or pinwheel was a little harder because I had to make the points meet in the middle. My first quilt was a shoo fly and again I must have been over ironing the triangles because they would stretch a bit and I'd have trouble getting the seams to match. But then I was learning to sew a straight line too.
I found books by Maggie Malone in the library useful. She's written a bunch on Classic American Patchworlk quilt patterns. I'm trying the necktie or bowtie pattern and I like one called Arkansas Traveler or Beggar Block. It can be made to look like butterflies. Both are rated easy.
