Unfortunately, most poly battings have to be quilted/tied closer than a cotton batt. I use poly batting and get good results. I like it better for quilts where I don't want shrink, or quilts that need to be warm. Some are obviously better quality than others - I like Hobbs Poly Down (currently on sale at Connecting Threads). If you tied the quilt, it should be relatively easy to take apart and add new batting. You will have to chalk this one up to a learning experience....one that you will never repeat, I am sure.
