I use pin cushions, but I'm a bit of a pin cushion snob I suppose, since the only cushions I will use are made locally from 100% hand dyed wool. The lady who makes them raises sheep for the wool - she makes the cushions from the 'ground up' so to speak.
Because of the lanolin in the wool my pins glide right into the fabric.
