I don't have a Green Dot but what I did was to open a checking account with a maximum balance of $500. I use this card to purchase items from the internet. I replenish whenever it runs low from my regular checking account. It was funny when I set it up the bank personnel nicknamed it "Internet". I don't pay any fees for low balances or any other type of fees.
