I love the ruler too. It is a bit flimsy but it is so helpful that I'll continue to use it when I need several strips. I've always held down the ruler with two fingers pushing down the pastic next to the slot I am cutting in to help stabilize it. (And, yes, I do this without any finger protection - I live dangerously and am still a kickin'.) Today when I cut strips for a 1-1/2 inch inner border, I used MCH's idea of putting a different ruler next to the slot instead. That seemed to work pretty well. I think I just need to get more used to doing it that way and I am sure I will love it.
