Quilts are not the only things people are jumping in and helping with, some groups do toiletry kits, used cellphones, bottle of water...for crying out loud!. Another site that has lots of info about helping, from very simple but extremely useful stuff on up to blankets/no-sew blankets, quilts ....... well, look it over for yourself.....http://soldiersangels.com.
