Mary, hello! Vintage sounds cool ... by traditional do you mean well known quilt blocks with vintage items incorporated? You've got 3 months to decide for sure so if you feel you need to change your mind later that's fine with me. For myself, I think it is nearly impossible to figure out what to do on others rows until I see what's already been done. No, you're not behind "everybody" because if I'm included in the "everybody" I haven't even started yet!
Right now I think I want to do a long row as opposed to blocks but, who knows ... when I get my "inspiration" I may end up with blocks!!!
