I saw a quilt that had been quilted every 10" and after it was washed the warm & natural had migrated down into "blobs" rather than keep it's whole shape. Use your fist as a guide when tying it.
That 'blobbing' really surprises me. I did that to a couple of battings that weren't what I thought they were, but they were NOT W&N.
I've found that W&N survives washing very well.
