I was doing the same thing, yet I kept buying new fabric. Last December, I decided I absolutely would not buy any more complete sets of fabric for quilts until I had made up the ones I had stored. I don't have them all made up, but I have reduced the inventory significantly. Other than purchasing a bit of fabric here and there to finish up a project, I have pretty much stuck to my commitment. It's crazy to have hundreds upon hundreds of dollars sitting in plastic totes in the cabinets. I intend to stick with this until I get a few more quilts finished and completed. So far so good!
I used to buy fabric on sale all the time with no real plans for it, just liked it and it was a good price. Had no idea how long it would take to actually use it up. I am making some progress now (after donating a large portion of it), but would love to get to a point to purchase some of the newer patterns, within reason of course.
