My 86 y/o mother had a scheduled appt with her ortho for her chronic knee problem. Three days before the appt she injured her arm, was seen in the ER and told to follow up with her ortho. Common sense says "oh good-she already has an appt" right? Wrong!! When I called to tell them about the ER visit so they could get that report I was informed we would have to make a SEPARATE appt for the ER follow up!! Do you know how hard it is to get an 86y/o with a bad knee and shoulder into my SUV for one appt let alone 2 appts? Luckilly (SP?) the receptionist tells me they have a cancellation for the appt immediately following my mom's so she can be seen for both problems. In other words, they will bill her ins for 2 visits. Well, being the bitch I am, I went in the exam room with her and kept asking question after question until we used up 2 15minute appt slots. I work for a GP and we have pts who bring in lists of 10 problems a visit and we address them all!! Specialists are a breed unto themselves.
