I wasn't aware there was such a thing as an online book but I don't attend many funerals. I'll be 64 this year and have only been to 6 funerals in my life. DH who served 20 years in the Air Force has attended many. At one stage he attended 3 or 4 in one week - 2 in one day.
I think online books are fine for people who have been active in the community but for family and close friends I would want to make it personal. I'm in two minds about flowers and cards. I remember when my Dad died- my Mum became upset all over again with each delivery. I eventually just put them amongst the others and said nothing. When she was able to deal with it I gave her all the cards.
