I have sewn since high school - we won't say how long ago that was! I amassed quite a stash on my own and then a year ago I inherited my dearest friend's stash - which she stored in a studio separate from her house. Needless to say I had to be pretty organized when bringing it home. I have fabric stored on bolts (anything one yard or larger), fat quarters in boxes, sorted by color, precut squres (2.5 3.0, 3.5, 4.0) also sorted by color. There are charms. Strips, cut at 2.5 are also in bins, sorted by color. Rather than use cardboard bolts from the LQS I went to a sign company in town and purchased corrugated cardboard (like they make political signs from) cut at bolt size. They are strong but thinner than the cardboard ones and believe me, I needed to save space.
