On the other hand, if you're just not in the spirit for doing a dessert this year, why don't you ask to be switched to a main course item? Then you can let someone else have the opportunity to provide their chosen dessert.
We seem to think alike -- I tired that and was told "Oh, you always come up with great ideas for dessert." So their flattery worked, no one wanted to trade, and back to square one!
