In my guest room, I have a white chenille bedspread and I fold my quilts and lay them at the foot of that double bed. I change them often just because I like too. If they're big enough, I will lay them on top up to the pillow area. When my grandson spends the night, I let him choose the quilt he wants to sleep under. He's 3 and seems to like this although sometimes it can take him a while to decide (delaying bedtime, perhaps?).
