Wrap it around a ruler and pull it nice and tight. Take it off the ruler and use a piece of scrap fabric to tie around it. Also, you could use the comic book boards that many wrap their fabric on and wrap it around there, and pin it at the end.
Then...you could put several on the board and mark what quilt they are all for.
