I wash by hand or mesh bag in machine with non-allergenic soap and dry on a rack that fits in my dryer to prevent tumbling. If your dryer doesnt have the rack, I would just spread to dry. I have done a lot of scraps, fat quarters and thrift store finds this way. You might add some vinegar to the rinse for extra protection.
