I like to trace the "other" side of paper piece patterns. Windows work fine - - for a while - - - and while the sun shines.
Someone gave directions for making a light box from a stool turned upside down. If the "legs" are flat pieces of board with a V cut out of them, lay a florescent light stick across that in the V, and lay a piece of glass on top. The glass should be covered with a piece of white paper to cut down the glare. You could put that in your lap.
