I run my Janome (different model) with the iron, A/C and CD player all on, so it shouldn't be an overloaded circuit problem. Have you check for lint and possible trapped threads? The only other thing I can think of, is if you're accidentally hitting the presser foot lever (can't think of what it's called - but the bar you press with your knee, to raise the presser foot), while you sew.
