The main block looks like a 'jack in the box' block, alternated with a 9 patch with the center patches being very narrow. It looks like blocks with sashing, but I think the sashing is actually in the middle of the blocks.
Look online for instructions 'jack in the box' block. Here's one from quilter's cache, but it has the 'arm' blocks oriented a bit different:

I've been wanting to make this block for a while, so I had researched it before. All the online ones have that weird rectangle with triangles on the ends. I have a book with that pattern and it uses all HSTs for the arms. That's what I was planning on doing. I think it would be easier.
All the patterns by Jackie Robinson that I've seen use fabric of her design. The zigzag look of the sashing is plaid fabric cut on the diagonal of the plaid.
