My husband had an extra thick piece of acrylic cut for me about 10 inches long. I use it for a straight edge when FMQ. It does take a bit of manual dexterity to hold the ruler on top of the quilt and move the sandwich as well. I can do it by have half of my left hand on the ruler and the rest of that hand on the quilt. I couldn't do it if I didn't have my Machingers gloves on that give me a good grip. The edger that Jamie Wallen has for sale at quiltersapothacary looks handy. Not sure of the site spelling.
