Wow it looks easy but I bet it has taken plenty of practise. Not sure i could manage it but willing to have a go if I see some cheap. Your fingers on th hand holding the plastic hing have to be strong. Would it make ditch line easier to do not sure.

I just checked these out and think for a domestic machine they might be great- not too big, easy to handle...I would not use them with my long-arm being only 1/4" thick my hopping foot would jump on top of the ruler & be horribly dangerous. all of the rulers I have for the long arm are at least 3/8" thick- 2 are 1/2"... but for a domestic I think they would be great.

My husband had an extra thick piece of acrylic cut for me about 10 inches long. I use it for a straight edge when FMQ. It does take a bit of manual dexterity to hold the ruler on top of the quilt and move the sandwich as well. I can do it by have half of my left hand on the ruler and the rest of that hand on the quilt. I couldn't do it if I didn't have my Machingers gloves on that give me a good grip. The edger that Jamie Wallen has for sale at quiltersapothacary looks handy. Not sure of the site spelling.

I had seen some other ones which looked good but were only for long-armers. I am not highly coordinated to hand-eye stuff, so FMQ is the weakest area of my quilting. It might just make things more difficult than switching feet and turning the quilt.
Still...maybe I'll buy just one, only one! If I hate it I'm sure someone else on the board would like to give it a try!
Thanks!

Depending on your DSM and your FMQ foot ........ you may be able to use your regular quilting rulers. I have played with mine and yes, it works OK. I haven't done anything for "real" yet though!!
I did get a piece of plexi, twice the thickness of your quilting rulers from the glass shop too.
Keep in mind that using the rulers, you do not put them on the line (eg. SITD), as the needle is over from that ... it takes some coordination to figure out how far to place the ruler from where you want the stitching to be.
I think the shapes/curves would be great to use. I played with them when I tried the S16, and wow did they ever make for even and perfect stitching. I'm sure that with some practice, one could use them with a DSM as well!
