How about an old fashioned Log Cabin? You can use the colors in your room. Use 2 1/2" strips and a 2 1/2" center and you will wind up with 14 1/2" blocks. 36 blocks and a couple of borders to drape down the sides of the bed. Fast quilt and timeless.
This is what I did for the first quilt I ever made, and then a year later, for Christmas, I made two more king size for out two married daughers, and a twin size for our son. I made all three is a week before I had to go in for surgery.
This was over twenty years ago.
