A lot of quilters
prefer to cut along the length so their borders have no joins. Take a deep breath - although I don't do it myself - some quilters
tear 
their fabric instead of cutting it! I'd be too scared the pattern was 'off' to do it myself.
Also, if you mitre the border, you'll get a nice finish on a big print.
