...Except, if you watch carefully, you'll notice the Pickers never, EVER pay any attention to old sewing machines (at least not the version that I'm watching)

On a similar note, I'm proud to say I resisted a pretty-much-free machine yesterday. Looked good in the pic (same retro vibe 'Wardana', blue and silver with chrome and red knob). Except I have never seen so much rust in all my life. The seller was desperately going at it with a dish scrubber to 'demonstrate how easily' the rust would come off, but I couldn't stomach it. I've got a Necchi BU to get working and that one lives on display in my lounge room so that's kind of motivating! LOL
Very good observation. I'm not a fanatic about the show but I do watch and you're right. I've never seen them buy a sewing machine. But it should be noted that most of what they buy is used as room decor. They sell to restaurants decorators and such.
On a side Picker note - my sister has lived in LeClaire Iowa for over 40 years. Danielle used live next door. It's a very picturesque town on the banks of the Mississippi river. Many beautiful homes that were built by river boat captains that would go on board at that point to navigate the rapid areas downstream with which they were familiar.
The show has been a huge boost to the town. "Picker Days" brings up to 10,000 people to LeClaire.

Rust isn't much of an issue around here what with our living in the High Desert and all...but I'm originally from Wisconsin where things rust right before your eyes :-)
