And, yes, if you are cutting away the backing you need to carefully snip an access hole first.

I never gave it a thought that the duckbill scissors are for right-handed people. I am right handed so I never had a problem. I love the ability to get close to a block without having to worry about actually cutting into the quilt. I am surprised that Gingher doesn't make left handed scissors applique sccisors.
