Help with Applique Scissors
I bought a pair of Gingher 6" scissors. One blade is curved for applique. I assumed that they are meant to cut the fabric from the back of the applique while protecting the front of the quilt applique. I can't figure out how to get the scissors into the back fabric. Can anyone tell me how to use these scissors? I am doing my first applique and I've seen these scissors recommended on the Board. Otherwise I'll have to send them back. Thanks.

I use appliqué scissors to trim around the fabric after my embroidery machine has tacked down the shape. The edge is then close to the stitching so the satin stitching will cover all the raw edges. Are you using for machine appliqué? For whet I think you are describing, can you not cut a little slit and ease the scissors in? They are really good for not cutting the fabric underneath the duckbill blade. Maybe you just need some practice.

Thanks for responding mermaid. I have tried to snip the fabric to get started. I'll try some more to see if I can get the hang of it. All I could see was pointing the straight part into the bottom fabric but that would defeat the purpose of the duckbill. I'd probably send it all the way through!

I finally found a left handed version at famore (for my neice):

And, yes, if you are cutting away the backing you need to carefully snip an access hole first.

I never gave it a thought that the duckbill scissors are for right-handed people. I am right handed so I never had a problem. I love the ability to get close to a block without having to worry about actually cutting into the quilt. I am surprised that Gingher doesn't make left handed scissors applique sccisors.
