Maybe this will help, maybe not... I was having problems with my machine before I got it working correctly... the tension was all messed up somehow- the thread kept breaking as well.
Have you adjusted the tension on both the top and bottom threads? Once I got that adjusted correctly to the project I was working on, it worked like a charm.
