She could check out some of the tutorials from Missouri Star Quilting Company. Perhaps she would like to make large pinwheels. I just made up a quick little throw with them. I've attached a photo so you can see. Here is the tutorial on how to make they really easy. They use charm squares but you can do it with larger squaes - you'll just get bigger pinwheels.
