You could use a flannel in the center of the pages. Be sure to pre-wash because flannel shrinks. If you use much for batting, when you try to stitch the pages together in the middle, it will be too think to get under the presser foot.. Books are fun to make and easy to wash. That is important with toddlers. You dont need much quilting on each page. A simple outline will do.
