A favorite of mine is "Brilliant Candy Slices":
Brilliant Candy Slices
Cream:
1 C. softened butter
1 C. sifted powdered sugar
Add:
1 egg
1 teasp. Vanilla
2-1/4 C. flour
Mix in:
1 C. pecan halves (I cut mine up into two pieces)
2 C. red/green candied cherries (I cut mine in half)
Divide dough into 3 logs, about 10" long
Roll up into waxed paper and chill for at least 3 hours
Slice into 1/8" – ¼” slices and place on cookie sheet.
Cookies do not spread so you can put them fairly close to each other.
Bake at 325 degrees for about 10—12 minutes .
You should not let them get “brown.”
