Default rotary cutter and ruler combo

My son and DIL gave me a Fiskars Rotary cutter and ruler combo for Christmas; I'm sure it came from JoAnn's. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet because I've considered returning it and getting something in its place (they don't mind if I exchange it for something else). The reason is that I have limited storage for quilting tools/supplies and I've been happy with my 6x24 ruler, plus others, and my rotary cutters, and have never imagined that I'd want or use this tool. So my question is this: is this cutter/ruler combo a valuable tool for the quiltmaker and really worth having and learning to use? It says it will cut up to 8 layers and there may be times when that would be handy. But it's kind of an expensive gadget and unless I hear a lot of praise for it, I may take it back. Anyone care to weigh in?Thanks! (for some reason I create a new paragraph, so this is one long scrunched up post!)
