the process in general goes like this:
Wrap the belt around the track it is supposed to follow
Take up the slack (not TOO tight) and mark both ends at the same location
trim both ends
punch(ice pick.awl, singer tool) a hole in each end CAREFULLY about 1/8" in from the end
insert link staple (NOT a regular staple, my LSMG carries them)
close staple
put belt on machine
begin cussing(working)
Thanks! Sounds fairly simple. There is a "staple" in one end, which must be the staple link you refer to.
