Thanks! Sounds fairly simple. There is a "staple" in one end, which must be the staple link you refer to.
If you don't want to deal with the staple, you can hold the two ends together with dental floss. Much easier to do than using that staple that comes with the belts. Just sew the dental floss through punched holes.
