Propane has doubled this winter - SUPPOSEDLY a shortage of propane - up to about $5.00 a gallon. We use propane but this year my DH has lit the fireplace and is putting wood in it several times a day - it is in our family room and it is so hot in there - so we put a hook up in the kitchen doorway - and put a little fan - and it is pointing down our long hall and moving the hot air really good down the hall. Now our furnace does not kick on until the fire in the fireplace goes out. We have an insert in the fireplace so no heat goes up the chimney. This works very well for us.
