Unless I'm out of fabric, or in one heck of a hurry, I make mine lap-quilt sized - 45x60. Two reasons - one, it covers the crib mattress completely, much like a bedspread on our larger beds, and two, it's plenty big enough for the baby to continue to use as they get older. A lap quilt is big enough to cover even an adult's lap (hence the name), so for a child, it's a very good cuddle size, even up until they're 9-10 years old.
