How big do you make your baby quilts?

"Baby quilts" are too quickly outgrown. I make a napping quilt, about 50x60 that can be used as the child grows, and even go on to college. I also make quilts for our NICU. They prefer 36" square. Some NICU's prefer 36"x42". My NICU quilts are double pieces of flannel with no batting.

I just finished my quilt top but I think I am going to need to add some more blocks *sigh*this is a pic of it before I sewed it together

since they no longer recommend having quilts or anything else in the crib, I make mine at least 54 square so mom and baby can lie on the sofa or sit in a chair together and share the warmth.

It really depends - if I am using a panel then it is usual 38inches by 44 inches. If I am making an "I Spy" quilt it is usually 50 inches by 60-70 inches or larger. That is more because I love the Kid fabrics and just keep going.

Unless I'm out of fabric, or in one heck of a hurry, I make mine lap-quilt sized - 45x60. Two reasons - one, it covers the crib mattress completely, much like a bedspread on our larger beds, and two, it's plenty big enough for the baby to continue to use as they get older. A lap quilt is big enough to cover even an adult's lap (hence the name), so for a child, it's a very good cuddle size, even up until they're 9-10 years old.

I asked this same question about 2 weeks ago and got many answers just like you are. I settled on 36 x 48 (including borders) and liked that size. Any bigger and it would have been too hard for me to quilt myself on a regular machine. My baby quilt is my avatar.
