I've tried several brands of adhesive paper and haven't found one yet that prevents fraying if it's light enough to sew through and not gum up the needle. A small narrow zigzag stitch would be quick and easy to do. Granted, some detail might be lost from the pieces, but necessary if you don't want fraying. I've tried raw edge appliqué and had it fray at least a bit on the first wash.
