I just tied one yesterday. I started with the center row and worked out from there. I drape it over my cutting surface--if you have basted it, it shouldn't shift--keeping the part I'm working on on top. I don't worry about the whole thing being flat as I work (such as spreading it on the floor), just the section I'm working on. I do tie the borders if they are wide-if you would prefer to stitch them, you could use your walking foot for simple straight lines. Good luck!
