When I do that, I cut off the folded under part as close to the stitching as I can get and then using a long pin or my seam ripper, I pull the weave apart. Good as new!
, This is what I also do. Just be sure to check your stitches to make sure they are not too loose after ripping out the extra layer of fabric. Good luck it can be done this way just take your time. (but it may not be quicker than ripping out the entire area)
