I haven't used the spray paint but I have used the brush on. I did the bottom half of a wall in the playroom for my grandkids. It works great ...except... it doesn't have the smooth surface that purchased chalk boards have. It is a bit rougher where an eraser only smears the chalk around instead of removing it. You have to use a damp cloth to clean it off. I put magnetic primer under it then 3 coats of the chalkboard paint. Since I put 3 coats of paint on top of the primer it isn't very strong to hold heaver magnets if you want to hang up paper or pictures etc. Also Lowe's has a brush on chalk board paint that you can tint to other colors that just black.
