I have 2 silverware, tiered holders, they take up about 4-5", but since there are tiers my tools are ready and waiting, along with marking tools, rotary cutters, etc., etc. As long as I put them back after I use them, my tools are always ready. LOL. Most of the time I do put them away after using.
