That is a lot of work, but looks great! Denim quilts are really heavy. The first quilt I made for my son was made with denim, using the pineapple design, with blue bandana fabric for the pineapple corners, I tied it, because of the weight, the quilt turned out great, but it is really heavy and he doesn't like heavy quilts, I did not use any batting in mine. That might be a choice or the next denim if you decide to make one, using some of DH shirts for the corner blocks. perhaps let the grandsons draw for which quilt they get, with the understanding that both will be satisfied with which ever quilt they get.
