The patterns I've used did not include instructions on the size of pieces to cut. Especially if you're new at this, cut the pieces a fair amount larger than the size of the area you will be piecing - like an inch or two bigger all the way around. You may waste a little fabric, but if you cut a few too small, you'll be wasting a lot too. Don't forget to figure on a seam allowance all the way around, including along the outside edge of the block. Have fun.
