Paper Piecing
I have done some paper piecing but had instructions on how big to cut each piece. Now I have a kit that I purchased but it doesn't have any detailed instructions on how big to cut each piece. Does anyone know if there's a way to predetermined the size of each piece so they can be cut before beginning the project? Thanks.

Fabric should be cut with 1/4" seam allowance added around all sides. If you purchased a kit, I would think the complete measurements should be included - that is, unless you are expected to buy the pattern separately. If that is not the case I would go back to the place you bought the kit and ask about it.

I am eager to read what people write. I have not done a great deal of paper piecing. The paper piecing that I have done always had instructions as to the size to cut the fabric. For the past 3 years, I have done a BOM with a designer who always has some paper piecing. I have learned to cut each piece 1" larger than she says. Yes, It is possible to use the size she gives; but you have to be so very, very careful in your placement. With my larger size, I never have to rip. Since I sew paper piecing with a very, very small stitch, ripping is a nightmare. Best wishes with your project.

I've never done paper piecing where you are told what size to make the pieces. I just measure the space that has to be covered and then cut a piece a little larger. If someone has another way to do it, I'll be glad to read about it.

The patterns I've used did not include instructions on the size of pieces to cut. Especially if you're new at this, cut the pieces a fair amount larger than the size of the area you will be piecing - like an inch or two bigger all the way around. You may waste a little fabric, but if you cut a few too small, you'll be wasting a lot too. Don't forget to figure on a seam allowance all the way around, including along the outside edge of the block. Have fun.

I've never had instructions on what size to cut the pieces. I just completely some paper pieced umbrellas for use in a jacket. Because the pieces were most small strips, I just cut 2" strips and used them as needed.
I agree with loisf. Cut the pieces considerably bigger. It's better to have to cut some off than to not have a big enough piece.
