At work (our LQS) when we make bindings, we lay them back and forth (like making a paper fan) then tie them with a strip of selvedge or a scrap. They do not twist when being sewn onto the quilt's edge. I find this works great for me also. I'll try some of your ideas also -- you never know the best for you until you've tried everything! Thanks for the hints!
