The tip I have heard mentioned most often is to accordion fold the fabric and use safety pins to hold the folds in place.
The tip is very close to the beginning of the video, probably less than one minute into it. Not in the comments section.

I had to make a run to Walmart to get some big safety pins. Oh well...it's only 1 mile to get there. And I needed to get that fabric washed so I could use it for a quilt backing. Success!
